Ingredient to Avoid: Mineral Oil

What is it: mineral oil is a liquid by-product of the distillation of petroleum to produce petroleum-based products from crude oil, like gasoline.

What does it do: mineral oils are known to clog pores by forming a barrier which prevents the skin from absorbing oxygen and eliminating toxins.

Where is it found: lipstick, lip balm, moisturizers, body lotions and oils

Why is it an ingredient to avoid: mineral oil is often contaminated with PAH’s (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons) which are linked to cancer

What are some alternatives to mineral oil:  oils from plants and herbs including jojoba, mango, apricot, and cocoa are among many natural oils that protect and nourish the skin. These natural oils all contain various vitamins and skin healing properties.

* aloe is used for healing cuts, scrapes and burns
